The last few days -

Hello!

We made it back to New Orleans. We only have a bit before heading off to dinner on the Natchez Steamboat, but I thought I'd give you a quick update.

Tuesday -
Beach clean-up on Grand Isle followed by a swim in the Gulf!

Wednesday -
Planted $6,000 worth of "cord grass" on FiFi Island. These grasses grow well in the bayou environment and act as a first line of defense for future storms.

Thursday -
Worked at local forest preserve pulling invasive Tallow Trees. Hard work - got many bug bites and scratches, but it was fun!

The internet connection at the hotel keeps going in and out - I will try to post pictures soon!

  1. Hi Everyone,

I am looking forward to seeing the pictures from the trip. You should all be very proud of the time and effort that you put in. I am sure that many people in the area down their are very appreciative of the work that you have done. But more should be. I am sure that it was mentioned on the Katrina tour as to the importance of the city of New Orleans. How large of an area of our country relies on that port. So much goes in and out of that city. While some may not see the connection to your efforts, they should. That regions needs the dynamics of a healthy ecosystem. The ecosystem provides much protection to a very fragile region. We as humans have tried to goof it up in the past, but fortunately we are begining to see our wrongs. You are helping to change those mistakes, and the impacts of your efforts will be felt for years to come. Be proud of what you have done, enoy your last few momonets in New Orleans, and travel safely back home.

  2. Holt, I agree. Those plants will help out so much with any future storms. And you all helped by planting more. I agree with Holt when he says that more people should be appreciatve of all the work and effort that was put in. Great job, and yes, enjoy your last few moments in New Orleans, because it's such an amazing city.
